Friends Of Distinction – 1975 – Reviviscence "Live To Calorie-free Over again"

Vocal harmony quartet The Friends of Distinction were formed in 1966 by Floyd Butler and Harry Elston, ii members of an before group the Hi-Fis.

The group recorded seven albums for RCA. This is their final 1975 album. By now the female vocalists were Dani McCormick and Dianne Jackson. Both had previously sung with a stone group Walrus and went on to do other things, Dani to tape with Randy Chocolate-brown, Minnie Riperton and Donna Summer"" was the first single, released in 1972 as a title song from a hitchhiking movie.

"Love Shack (Opened Upward A Shop), Office ane" was the only single from "Reviviscence (Live To Calorie-free Again)". What did non get a unmarried at the time was "When A Trivial Love Began To Die" so Expansion Records are thrilled to exist able to offering this song as a 45 now for the kickoff time. The group straddled styles from rock tinged funk to sweet soul and gorgeous crossover moments. Highlights include the superb modern 'When A Little Love Began To Die' and the lush carol 'I Don't Want To Be Late'.

The album represent a lighter shade of soul, sometimes referred to as event 'cravat soul', definitively so on "Let Yourself Become" by Friends of Distinction back in 1969.  Following the 1975 album the group retired from both recording and touring, all going their separate ways but leaving backside a quality body of work we enjoy to this solar day and are pleased to exist able to revive.

Known about for their pop smash "Grazing in the Grass", the Friends of Distinction were founded by Harry Elston and Floyd Butler and included Jessica Cleaves and Barbara Jean Beloved, as well every bit later member Charlene Gibson, who replaced Beloved during her pregnancy. Elston and Butler'south interest in music entailed several groups, including the Hi-Fi's. When that group disbanded in 1966, Elston and Butler recruited Cleaves and Beloved for their next try. Initially, Elston came up with Distinctive Friends equally a proper noun, but Love suggested reversing the words to Friends of Stardom.

After polishing their act for a few months during 1968, the Friends of Distinction hit the local bout circuit in Los Angeles. With well-developed talent and the back up of a well-known manager, former football great Jim Brown, the group signed with RCA. In 1969, the grouping released its beginning single, "Grazing in the Grass". Originally recorded by famed trumpeter Hugh Masekela (Elston wrote the lyrics to Masekela'south trumpet pb), the vocal became a smash hit. Information technology graced the Billboard R&B nautical chart for 17 weeks and peaked at number 5, while it reached number three on the Hot 100. The second release, "Going in Circles" climbed to number three on the R&B chart during a 19-week stay.

"Honey or Let Me Be Lonely", "Time Waits for No One" and "I Need You" also charted for the grouping, though none was as rewarding as the group'south first two hits. The group also encountered some personnel changes following the early on success. Dearest departed, as did Cleaves, who joined Earth, Wind & Burn (and later worked with Parliament–Funkadelic and Raw Silk, amidst others). When Elston and Butler opted to call it quits over differences, the Friends of Stardom had 7 albums to their credit, all of which were released on RCA. Later on several years apart, Elston and Butler overcame their differences, just Butler died of a heart attack in 1990. Later in the decade, Elston re-formed the group with Pattie Brooks, Van Jewel, and Drake Frye every bit his boyfriend performers. Cleaves died after a stroke in 2014.
